What is Mentorship?
We lead others to the gospel through Mentorship.
Mentorship is a journey of helping an individual learn and deepen their relationship with the gospel in order to grow in maturity and virtue. By supporting programs and initiative that prioritize mentorship across the state, Unite Mississippi is able to reach more people with the good news of gospel.
Unite Mississippi uses your donations to fund school mentorship initiatives across our state. With your donations, we support amazing faith-based partners and organizations utilizing the gospel to mentor young people in communities across Mississippi.
The Value of Mentorship
Center for Disease Control’s 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey of high school students in Mississippi:
– 41.8% felt sad or hopeless almost every day for two weeks or more.
– 21.9% currently drink alcohol, with 9.7% participating in binge drinking.
– 21.6% currently smoke cigarettes, cigars or smokeless tobacco/vapors.
– 18% recently rode with a driver who had been drinking.
– 21.6% considered suicide in the last year, while 19.7% made a suicide plan and 16.2% attempted taking their own life.
Being Changed by the Gospel
Across the globe, young people today face challenges in greater frequency and depth than those faced by previous generations.
We live in a world of constant comparison. Young people are bombarded daily with messages telling them they are not good enough, and as Unite Mississippi serves our local schools and communities, we see the growing need to equip youth with spiritual and leadership opportunities to help them deal with social pressures, mental health issues and addictions. In today’s society, young people face challenging situations such as win-at-all-cost mentalities, anger management, and attitudes of entitlement and self-worth. Add to that the challenges of navigating drugs, violence, social/school relationships and high poverty levels and the pressures can seem insurmountable. Some will successfully navigate these situations, while others may turn to risky behavior to escape. Unite Mississippi is committed to providing the programs and resources that will equip our youth to build resiliency and a positive outlook for their future.
